Mum wanted some photographs whilst her children were still young. Time flies so quickly when children are growing up and it is always nice to get some professional images very few years. They preserve and capture treasured memories that are otherwise forgotten.

High resolution images taken on Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera are great if you want to produce photo books, canvases and acrylics. You cannot get this quality on your smartphone.

I suggested Catton Park a lovely green space with lots of wide open spaces, trees and a wild flower meadow. The park is around 70 acres. It is a very special place because it was the first to be landscaped by Humphrey Repton.

You can still see remnants of the old landscape in the magnificent old trees that are scattered in the parkland and beyond. They include some very tall Sequoias also known as Wellingtonias.

Fallen trees and old tree stumps are useful backdrops and props to use to enhance your images. They are much loved by young children to play and explore.

The park also has several wooden benches and sculptures to use that will add variety to your images.

It was early Autumn that is normally a great time for portraiture. However the lovely sunny day that we has chosen was a bit too harsh for this type of photography. Harsh sun casts horrible shadows on peoples faces. This is easily overcome by shooting in the shade. Fortunately with lots of woodland, there are lots of places in Catton Park that are in the shade.

Norwich Family Photo Shoot – Combinations

We set about getting a combination of images over a 2 hour period. 2 hours is about the right time to move to different locations and to get a variety of images. We tried the following shots:-

  • Full group
  • Individual
  • Husband and wife
  • Mother with daughter
  • Mother with son
  • Father with daughter
  • Father with son
  • Mother with both children
  • Father with both children
  • Brother and sister

The result was a pleasing set of images. They said “Thank you so much for these, they are lovely. They really capture the beautiful day and there are some great images of us all”.
